ZELLIGE POLO

A checked knit polo, white shirt collar and contrast sleeve trims, lettered "Algeria" in gold script.

Zellige covers the walls of Casbah houses and the courtyards of Tlemcen. One tile, one module, one color — repeated until the whole room is covered. Up close, no two are alike: the master's hand wavers, the firing pulls the glaze, and the pattern comes out of that flaw. Nobody sets zellige with a ruler.

The collar is an open shirt collar on a short placket, with trims matched to the sleeves: dressier than a tee, less stiff than a classic polo. The knit is light, checked in the weave, and breathes. Boxy cut, dropped shoulders.

Across the chest, the word Algeria in gold script, in the hand of the signs painted above Algiers café fronts. Three colors: green, blue, brown. Wear it with wide trousers, open over a white tee.
